Places and Faces was recorded June 28 and 29, 2007, onstage at The Georgia Southern University Performing Arts Center in Statesboro, Georgia.

The piano, a New York Steinway Model D, #556535, was purchased in 2001 for the PAC. Jerry Roberson, RPT, of Jerry Roberson Piano, has maintained the piano since its purchase and prepped the instrument for recording. The Steinway was placed center stage in the usual recital position and, after much experimentation, the lid was placed on the short stick. The stage's heavy curtains, just upstage of the piano, were drawn.

The recording equipment consisted of a Macintosh iBook G4 running Pro Tools LE in 48k 24 bit format, a pair of Coles 4038 ribbon microphones, a Behringer B2 condenser microphone, an Apogee Mini-Me A/D converter, and a Digidesign Mbox 2. Each microphone was assigned to an individual track. The Coles pair was used in the final stereo mix. The mix was mastered with Pro Tools HD TDM (Macintosh OS X) and dithered to 44.1k 16 bit format for compact disc.
